Sarah & Stefan – A Rustic Celebration in the Heart of Adelaide

When it comes to Adelaide bridal style, few names are as synonymous with modern elegance as Alexis George. Today, we’re thrilled to share the story of real bride Sarah, who celebrated her wedding in the heart of Adelaide, dressed in a custom Alexis George gown that perfectly reflected her personal style and vision for the day.

How They Met: A Chance Encounter in Adelaide

Sarah and Stefan’s love story began on a night out at The Gallery in Adelaide. While celebrating her brother’s birthday, Sarah spotted Stefan across the room. A mutual friend’s introduction was all it took for sparks to fly. “As soon as I walked into the bar I spotted this tall, handsome guy... Stefan said that was his opportunity to come up to me and introduce himself, and that’s exactly what he did,” Sarah recalls.

A Romantic Adelaide Proposal

Stefan’s proposal was as thoughtful as it was personal. On a Sunday picnic by the River Torrens—a favourite spot for the couple—Stefan handed Sarah a wine glass inscribed with the words, “Sarah, will you marry me?” After a heartfelt speech, he got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife. “It was a day I’ll never forget,” Sarah says.

Adelaide Wedding Inspiration: Simple, Rustic, and Timeless

Sarah drew inspiration for her wedding from Pinterest and Instagram, gravitating towards earthy, natural tones and a “less is more” philosophy. “I wanted my wedding to be simple and rustic,” she explains. Her vision came to life with a ceremony at the stunning Adelaide Botanic Gardens and a joyful reception at Sanctuary Adelaide Zoo, both iconic local venues perfect for a South Australian celebration.

The Alexis George Experience: Finding the Perfect Bridal Gown

Alexis George was Sarah’s first stop on her bridal journey, and it proved to be the only one she needed. “George told me to keep the style to what’s me, what I would feel most comfortable with and myself. After showing photos of the kind of dress I wanted, George put together something absolutely amazing and I knew straight away I wanted Alexis George to make my dress,” Sarah shares.

Sarah’s Custom Alexis George Wedding Dress

Sarah's gown was crafted from structured Spanish faille and features a modern square neckline paired with a pencil skirt and a front split. The back of the dress plunges into a flattering V shape, secured by delicate rouleau straps with gold toggles. For added drama, Sarah chose a structured crinoline back skirt, artfully cut into cone shapes with a defined hemline that creates beautiful volume and a sculptural wave effect along the edge.

Wedding Day Highlights

For Sarah, the highlight of the day was sharing the dance floor and laughter with family and friends. “I could not wipe the smile off my face,” she remembers. Every detail, from the rustic florals by Flowers by Zofi to the seamless entertainment by Entertainment Adelaide, contributed to a day filled with joy and unforgettable moments.

Advice for Future Brides

Sarah’s advice for brides-to-be is to stay true to themselves and their style. “Be as organised as possible so you’re not stressing in the weeks closer to your date. Excel spreadsheets and to-do lists saved my life! But the best piece of advice I was given was on the day of your wedding, everything you’ve organised can’t be changed—there’s nothing more you can do so just enjoy the day, take it all in and be in the moment,” she shares.
